General information about dental laser applications

Laser is defined by the crystal that is used in the equipment. These crystal not only gives the name of laser, they also defined wave length of the light.

Laser types that are used for dental treatments are : Nd YAG Lase, Diode Laser,Erbium Laser, CO2 Laser and KTP. These laser types are used in different areas and treatments.

Nd YAG Laser

Nd YAG Laser is the most common type in dental treatments. It is used especially in root canal treatments and gum repair. It works 1064nm wave length and thanks to this wave length, this laser is absorbed by only a special bacteria which prevents the healing process but no other tissue. So this laser is the biggest tool for dentist to get rid of this bacteria. Also this laser is focused on only 1mm diameter circle so dentist can target only the treatment area so it does make no negative impact to the surrounding tissues.

The biggest drawback of this laser is a very high cost. For this reason, unfortunately each clinic can be found.
