There are two types of whitening for your and your dentist's choice.

Office Type Bleaching

Office type is the method usually recommended by dentist because of ıts easy implementation, controllable process and very quick results. It is applied by dentist or experienced assistants following to teeth cleaning and removal of discolorations. Dentist isolates patient's gum with protective material and applies bleaching jell to the teeth. By the help of special blue light source, jell must stay for 20 minutes on the teeth to show the instant effect. When the time is up, teeth must be cleaned from the jell and fluoride.

Following the treatment, the patient should not smoke, drink beverages or eat food that might leave color stains on the teeth for a few days (i.e. coffee, tea, cola, red wine, herbal tea etc.). Bleaching jell might slightly irritate gum. Therefore, application of bleaching needs to be done very carefully. Especially home type applications are very open for this kind of mistakes. So if the bleaching jell contacts with gum, it must be cleaned carefully with wet cotton.

In very rare cases, bleaching may cause hot-cold sensitivity. However this situation is completely lost within a few days. Bleaching process does not lead to any damage or change on teeth enamel.

Bleaching is a permanent application so need to repeat on regular basis. However excessive smoking and coffee/tea consuming may darken the teeth 10-20% in a certain amount of time. Usually patients must be controlled every 6 months and if the color change increases, bleaching may be reinforced by a one time supportive treatment.

Home Type Bleaching

Dentist must prepare an application mold for the patient based on the measurements of his/her mouth. In home applications, the bleaching adjacent is slower then the office usage so the process takes about 8 hours. So it is advised to do bleaching while the patient is sleeping. This is the most practical method. Patient put the bleaching adjacent in to special mold and puts it onto his/her teeth after brushing teeth just before going to the bed. Overflowing jell must be cleaned very carefully. This process must be repeated 10-15 days. Results can be observed after 3 days.
